Love this! Read whilst brushing my teeth and now I’m off to consider what my proudest moment at my 85th might be (with potentially un-brushed incisors) 🦷😬💛💛

You can have dentures by that point, don’t worry 😉 so glad you enjoyed, thank you!

I’m considering this too, Leah! It’s such a good question to ask ourselves.

I love the idea of the red thread, Ellie. It is definitely take that and use it. For me all the questions you ask are as relevant to me as someone in retirement. Although the 85th birthday 🎁 is definitely closer to me now 😁😁. Thank you I will be thinking about this all day xx

Lovely post and a great question. But I really don't know how to answer it!

Thanks Jeffrey, I’m so glad to hear it! It can just be something to muse in the background, then the answer might reveal itself to you over time?

Indeed! I like that about it.

What a wonderful and thoughtful piece - it’s got me thinking a lot about my red thread, or golden thread from your piece Hannah.

As I go through a career change and I’m exploring new things, I’m finding common themes related to my background in psychology. But once I dig a little deeper, I’ve found my thread comes back to connecting with people in a meaningful way. Thank you with the insights 🧵

Ellie’s questions really do give a focus to finding the thread, don’t they? Definitely something to keep thinking on and coming back to as the answers start to appear.

I love this, Ellie, and the timing is perfect, as I am starting to embrace my unique value prop personally and professionally. I struggled a good bit this year with my separate identities as both a content marketer and someone who is passionate about helping women stop measuring their self worth by their appearance. I’m getting there.

Thank you for offering a way to tackle an overwhelming and confusing task - figuring out how all of me makes sense! I have never been good at saying what I do or what I am. I usually leave an introductory conversation thinking of the things I didn’t say or purposefully repressed about myself. The red thread. Love it!!

Ah, thank you for letting me know! I'm so glad to hear it was helpful - here's to not repressing any more. X

Gosh! This is an interesting one. I’ve had a LOT of jobs over the years. Most are seemingly different, but, I’m sure that if I dig deep, I’ll find a red thread pulling it all together. I say “sure”, maybe I mean “hope”, as in it can’t all just be random, can it?

I’ve got a “thing” coming up at work. It was called an “ice-breaker”. How’s that as a term to just make you inwardly cringe?! “Just a few slides on what type of animal you are at work”...Urgh. Where to even start on that?! And, yes, I’m aware there’s a lot of speech marks in there! 🤣

That's what I believe - that it can't be random, because at the very heart of it is YOU! So there is something tying it all together, it's just finding the words to explain it!

Oh gosh, ice-breakers are STRESSFUL. Just a few slides! on what type of animal you are! GODSPEED NAOMI! (What animal have you gone for?!)

I haven’t decided yet! It’s a tricky one, as I’m sure they want a go-getter, exciting kind of animal, which I’m not sure really reflects the real me. I think we are different animals in different settings 🤷‍♀️

Ha! That’s what I thought!! Not very “work-y” though. Or a cat, although they’re aloof and like to do things on their terms. Also not very work-y 🤷‍♀️

Thank you Ellie! That's really kind if you 🤗 I think I just need to be a bit patient. It's only my sixth week writing on Substack 😊

Great questions Ellie and Hannah. Thank you.

I feel resistance at settling on one 'thread' that is the core essence of me but I'm up for the challenge!
